The Samurai series debuted in January 2017, drawing inspiration from the breathtaking Samurai armor exhibition at the Frist Museum in Nashville. This exceptional display of Japanese culture offered captivating visuals that transcended simple documentation. My goal was to pay tribute to the legendary warrior class that emerged in the 12th century and governed Japan until 1868. By intentionally blurring the images, I aimed to showcase the strength of these remarkable warriors, bringing attention to their vivid colors, tones, compositions, and indomitable spirit.
