This painting was first displayed at the Mason Fine Art Gallery in Atlanta in the year 2019, a significant event in my artistic career, as it marked the unveiling of not just one, but nine distinct pieces that I had poured my heart and soul into. The exhibition was met with overwhelming enthusiasm, and all the artworks were quickly purchased by a notable collector shortly after the exhibition concluded, a testament to the connection that people felt with the pieces. Among these artworks, this particular painting stands out as it vividly depicts a bright, sunny day at Centennial Olympic Park, located in the heart of downtown Atlanta. This city has always held a special place in my heart, especially during moments when I am not exploring the serene heights of mountaintops. The vibrant atmosphere of the bustling city can be incredibly enjoyable; I often find myself immersed in the lively scenes, with people walking, talking, laughing, and generally having a good time, creating a dynamic backdrop for my artistic endeavors. Sometimes, in a moment of inspiration, I discreetly hold my camera at chest level, capturing candid photos of the everyday life that unfolds around me, hoping to seize the essence of characters that would enrich my cityscapes. I seldom rely on just one photograph for my compositions; instead, I prefer to gather a variety of images to create a more comprehensive and engaging narrative. For this particular painting, I took at least twenty different photos around the park, meticulously positioning the people exactly where I envisioned them in the final composition. This process of selecting and arranging figures is not only enjoyable for me, but it also allows me to craft a scene that feels alive and authentic, even if it requires an entire day to perfect the arrangement. In the central detail of the painting, the women depicted were not originally from the same area of the park, but I found their presence captivating and felt compelled to include them in this imagined scene, adding depth and character to the overall composition. The man featured in the first detail was placed exactly as I encountered him, a spontaneous decision that added a layer of realism to the work. I must admit, I followed him from a distance of about a hundred feet, capturing his image discreetly, as I prefer not to ask people to pose for my photographs. This approach allows me to maintain the naturalness of the scene, which is essential to my artistic vision. My passion for painting cityscapes is likely rooted in my upbringing, as my father excelled at capturing urban landscapes, and I find the challenge of portraying such environments both exhilarating and rewarding. I often ponder how the great artist Canaletto would have approached the creation of one of his masterpieces, especially considering he did not have the luxury of a camera to aid him. I suspect that people in his time moved with a similar pace as we do today, navigating the streets with purpose and energy. Regardless of the historical context, I had an immense amount of fun creating this piece, and knowing that it now hangs in a beautiful place brings me great joy, as it is the ultimate validation of my work and the connection it fosters with those who view it.
The idea for this rap came to me during a spontaneous moment of inspiration. I was listening to various artists in the genre, and I felt a strong urge to express my thoughts and emotions through rhythm and rhyme. The process of writing allowed me to tap into my playful side, and I found myself experimenting with different flows and wordplay.
"ATL Vibes"
By Eric Buechel
Verse 1
Cruisin' down Peachtree, windows rolled low, Bass bumpin' heavy, feel that southern flow. Got my crew with me, we reppin' the A, From the trap to the stage, we hustle all day.
Chorus
ATL vibes, we livin' that life, From the clubs to the streets, we cuttin' it tight. Turn up the heat, let the rhythm ignite, In the heart of the city, we shine so bright.
Verse 2
Late night at Magic, the lights flashin' gold, Dreams turn to reality, stories unfold. From the east to the west, we make it our own, In the land of the legends, we’ve carved out a throne.
Chorus
ATL vibes, we livin' that life, From the clubs to the streets, we cuttin' it tight. Turn up the heat, let the rhythm ignite, In the heart of the city, we shine so bright.
Bridge
Rollin' with the fam, loyalty's key, In the city where the hustle meets the melody. From the AUC to the corner store, We grindin' hard, always ready for more.
Outro
So raise your glass, toast to the night, In Atlanta, we thrive, everything feels right. With the ATL vibes, we’re never alone, In this city of dreams, we’ve found our home.
